How crazy is nature? This gorgeous gemstone was created in the earth and is totally natural. All the gorgeous colors you see are the result of thousands (millions?) of years and random minerals coming together in just the right way.
This gem is such a beauty. It’s known in the trade as ‘Sonoran Sunrise’ or ‘Sonoran Sunset’ depending on which you prefer.
My father actually lapped this particular piece into the shape of elongated rectangle. I have set it in sterling silver with a scalloped bezel, twisted wire jump ring and a double strand chain that has been darkened. It closes with a sterling silver spring ring clasp.
If you are wondering what ingredients make this stone so unique, read on. Originally found in Sonora, Mexico, the green/blue in this stone is chrysocolla and the red is cuprite. Black iron or iron oxide minerals are usually concentrated in between the layers of chrysocolla and cuprite which is what gives this stone the look of a landscape.
