How gorgeous is this fossilized opal?!
This stone is not only beautiful, it is truly unique because of the way that it formed. Essentially what happens is when wood turns to stone, opal (silica and water) fills in the empty areas and fossilizes.
The colors in the piece are amazing. Greens, blues, and golds that shimmer ever so slightly in the sunlight.
I have crafted the ring from sterling silver but the gemstone sits in a 14kt gold bezel. I love the contrast of green and gold. I also hand darkened the silver to provide a little more contrast and bring out the fine details.
