Double Eagle Necklace

How bada$$ is this necklace? It reminds me of family seals and crests, which if you have seen my other wax seals, you know I love. This cool pendant is a double-headed eagle with its wings spread wide open, as if to say 'come and get it' and 'I'll protect you' both in the same gesture.

Historically in heraldry the double-headed eagle (or double-eagle) is associated with the concept of empire. The eagle has also long been a symbol of power and dominion.

This charm is slightly smaller than a quarter and is strung on a delicate sterling silver chain with a sterling silver clasp.  A customized pendant hand crafted from pure silver.

Process - The medium I use to create this charm is known as Metal Clay and it consists of recycled silver from photo negatives mixed in an organic binder. In this case I used a wax stamp to make an impression on the clay, then I fire in a kiln where the binder burns away and the piece that remains is .999 pure silver.  I then oxidize (darken) it in order to bring out the texture, and polish the high points to create a nice contrast.
