It has become obvious to me that I have an obsession with hearts that are aflame. Take my logo for example. I wish I could offer an explanation for it, but I guess 'we like what we like' is going to have to suffice.
This unique piece was born of that love, and is so different from my usual style, but at the same time, really seems to fit in. The pendant on this this necklace features a gold rustic-style heart aflame that seems to float inside a silver border. This piece is .999 pure silver and the heart in the center has been covered in 23kt gold leaf (see below for the process). It hangs from an 19" textured silver-plated chain and closes with a spring ring clasp.
The medium I use is known as Silver Metal Clay and it consists of recycled silver from photo negatives in an organic binder. Once stamped, it is fired in a kiln where the binder burns away and the piece that remains is .999 pure silver. The gold leaf is applied by an ancient Korean gilding technique known as Keum-boo. To accomplish this, 23kt gold foil is applied with heat and pressure until the gold fuses to the silver.

I would recommend being careful when wearing this necklace. Take it off before showering and put it on after the application of any lotions/perfumes.
