Loving this combination! One charm is a pure silver metal clay rustic style compass. Compasses have always been synonymous with navigation and helping one find their way when lost or searching for their destination. If you want to learn about the metal clay process, see below.
The other charm is a rose cut iolite gem in a beautiful bluish-purple color. It’s set in a 14kt gold bezel and a sterling silver setting. Historically, iolite was known as the Viking’s compass as it has polarizing properties so when sailing Vikings would use it to neutralize the sun's rays.
The combination is such a lovely nod to travel, history, and all things nautical.
Process - The medium I use to create this compass pendant is known as Metal Clay and it consists of recycled silver from photo negatives mixed in an organic binder. In this case I used a wax stamp to make an impression on the clay, then I fire in a kiln where the binder burns away and the piece that remains is .999 pure silver. I then oxidize (darken) it in order to bring out the texture, and polish the high points to create a nice contrast.
Pure silver metal clay compass
Sterling silver
14kt gold
Sterling paper clip chain
Spring ring clasp
Your purchase will arrive in a 100% recycled box w/ poly-fill wadding, ready to give as a gift for others or yourself ;-)
