Snakes are a common theme throughout history, beginning as early as ancient Egypt. They symbolized numerous things including, fertility, wisdom, and everlasting love. Queen Victoria was given a snake engagement ring from Price Albert with emerald eyes as May was her birth month.
This bada$$ necklace has an edge. The snake itself is made from metal clay, which is pure silver. Then I applied a 23kt gold foil in random places to bring out the texture in a process known as Keum-Boo. Soldered on a jump ring, and darkened (oxidized) the entire piece by hand.
This little coiled beauty hangs from an oxidized sterling silver curb chain that measures 18" long and closes with a spring ring clasp.
If you would like to learn about the process I use to create this pendant, please see below.
Process - The medium I use to create this pendant is known as Metal Clay and it consists of recycled silver from photo negatives mixed in an organic binder. In this case I used a wax stamp to make an impression on the clay, then I fire in a kiln where the binder burns away and the piece that remains is .999 pure silver. I then oxidize (darken) it in order to bring out the texture, and polish the high points to create a nice contrast.

23kt gold foil
Snake measures 1 1/2" long by 5/8" wide
