Chrysoprase Ring

Green chrysoprase chalcedony (a variety of quartz) is one of my favorite colors. It can range from apple green to a darker, more saturated hue but it always seems to glow. It looks especially good set in gold.

This beautiful chalcedony gem sports a rose cut, which is many facets on top and a flat bottom. I am obsessed with with cut. It’s been around since at least the 1400’s and was used on diamonds in India at the time.

Chrysoprase is actually a variety of quartz with a tiny crystal structure but the hardness is still a 7 (out of 10) on the Moh’s scale. Despite its relative hardness, the stone is quite large, so you will have to be careful when wearing this lovely.

I have set this rose cut chrysoprase in 14kt rose gold bezel. The bezel has a high polish while the rest of the ring is sterling silver that has a brushed finish and has been oxidized by hand to bring out the texture.
