Boudica Necklace
I went through a phase of being obsessed with the female warrior Boudica, she is such an inspiring figure.
I wanted to incorporate her into my jewelry somehow, so my crafty father created this abstract wax stamp. The image is based on an ancient coin with the warrior queens highly stylized image which can be seen in my photos.
Boudica was Queen of the Brittons circa 60AD who waged a war against the Romans after they tried to forcibly take over her kingdom once her husband had died. She fought back and with the help of the local townspeople managed to overtake a number of Roman colonies until she was finally defeated by the much larger and much stronger Roman army. While she lost the war, her story is an inspiring one of courage, bravery and independence which is why I think this piece will make a lovely addition to my wax stamp collection.
Process - The medium I use to create this charm is known as Metal Clay and it consists of recycled silver from photo negatives mixed in an organic binder. In this case I used a wax stamp to make an impression on the clay, then I fire in a kiln where the binder burns away and the piece that remains is .999 pure silver. I then oxidize (darken) it in order to bring out the texture, and polish the high points to create a nice contrast.
The item pictured is not the exact piece you will receive as I make these to order. Since they are special orders made especially for you, they will take roughly a week to ship.
Your purchase will arrive in a 100% recycled box w/ poly-fill wadding, ready to give as a gift for others or yourself ;-)
